Phonics Lesson Plan

o Nevada Standards: o RF.2.3 - Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. o RF.2.3a - Distinguish long and short vowels when reading regularly spelled one-syllable words. Content Objectives: o STWBAT know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Language Objectives: o SW isolate the short /e/ vowel sound is in words where the vowel is in a closed pattern, as in red, bed, den, and vet. o SW read decodable book Get the Pets. o SW write and label one-syllable short /e/ CVC words with 90% accuracy. Materials: White board, markers, /e/ picture cards, Decodable text Get the Pets Procedures: o Phonemic Warm-Up o Procedure: Teacher will provide words for phoneme isolation. o SWBAT isolate the short /e/ sound in words. o Teach the Sound Spelling o Procedure: Teacher will use picture cards to present key words containing the short /e/ spelling. o Word Card Examples jet bed web egg hen o SW repeat words and short e spelling pattern. o Practice Blending o Procedure: Using the white board, teacher will build words and ask students to blend the words. o Example: CVC Words Begin with TEN Erase T and make PEN Erase N and make PET Erase P and make NET o SW identify short e sound and then blend. o Apply to Decodable Text o Procedure: Teacher and student will read Get the Pets o SW hi-light words in the text with the short e sound. o Dictation and Spelling

Teacher will dictate 3 words containing the short e. BED WEB WHEN o SWBAT write the words with 90% accuracy Word Work o Procedure: Teacher will provide student with a short e worksheet. o SWBAT say the word displayed in the picture. Trace and write in the e and read the completed word.
