The Alphabet - The Corner Stone to Reading

All education programs use verbal instruction as a major tool for teaching, it is therefore imperative that one become proficient in the use of language as early as possible and to the fullest extent possible. The Corner Stone to being able to read is mastering the alphabet. If one can recite the alphabet it does not mean that one has mastered the alphabet. It is first imperative that one learns to identify, name and sound out each individual character of the alphabet. Knowledge of the sounds of letters is followed by learning the effect of the position of the letter upon its sound. This leads us into phonetics which is an essential means of mastering the mechanics of reading and of enabling one to become an independent reader. These basics must be mastered in order so as not to confuse one. 1. Identify and name individual characters of the alphabet. 2. Sound out the individual characters. 3. Understand the effect of the position of the character upon its sound. Please use the Alphabet Audio Visual Reader, see, listen and pronounce the characters in the various formats that they are presented. Once it is felt that these are mastered use the Alphabet Audio Visual Reader with the sound switched off. Repeat until you are sure that this is mastered.
