CHD Welcomes new Board Member

CHD Worksite Wellness Committee focuses on employee health

The environment in our workplace undoubtedly has an effect on our physical and mental health, the cornerstone concept for CHDs Worksite Wellness Committee which was launched in 2011. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the workplace influences physical, mental, economic and social well-being and offers an ideal setting and infrastructure to support the promotion of health of a large audience. Some projects of the committee include the B & K fitness center, Healthy Monday tips to Health Department employees and promoting Monday Miles with various routes including the Elm Street Health Center. The committee has also collaborated with vending machine distributors and introduced healthier vending options such as V8 Juice and baked chips. Several beautification projects have also been identified that, upon completion, will enhance the livability for employees at the B & K campus. The most recent example has been the new ambiance in the restrooms. Some additions to the restrooms include air fresheners, pictures and plants. This year the committee is taking on new initiatives that may include The Biggest Loser Challenge, having fresh produce delivered to worksites and also implementing a Spring Cleaning Day.
