Bed bugs decline in Cincinnati

Data released from the Greater Cincinnati Survey conducted by the University of Cincinnatis Institute for Policy Research demonstrates that Cincinnati residents experiencing problems with bed bugs have declined from 22 percent in 2009 to 18 percent in 2010. Cincinnati Health Department officials point to this data as an indication that the Citys aggressive outreach and education efforts are working. Health officials believe this is an encouraging sign that knowledge has been gained and applied about how to limit the spread of the pesky insects. We know that we can make a difference if we work together to provide surveillance, resources and deliver accurate messages. The City will continue to be aggressive in our response to this very difficult problem. Said Dr. Camille Jones Cincinnati Assistant Health Commissioner.

CHD dental clinics expand hours

Monday, April 2, Cincinnati Health Department (CHD) dental clinics will be expanding hours and patients will now be able to receive emergency dental care in the evenings and weekends. Additional funds were provided by City Council in response to the growing demand for dental care in Cincinnati. According to the Ohio Department of Health, access to dental services is the leading unmet health need for children and lowincome adults in Ohio. Expanding the hours of the dental clinics will not only ensure that patients receive timely care and quality care, but it will also free up emergency room resources, said Nancy Carter, CHDs Dental Director. Patients who are under or uninsured wont have to rely on the emergency room to receive dental care. Last year, the nephew of famed musician Bootsy Collins passed away unexpectedly as a result of untreated dental problems because he could not afford a prescribed antibiotic. The Collins family has since helped raise awareness, including advocating for extended dental services at CHD dental clinics.

A letter of thanks to CHD Litter Program

Mr. Jacoby, As an owner of multiple properties and resident of the City of Cincinnati I wanted to drop you a note to thank you and your hard working staff for their quick response to various litter issues we have reported in our community. While it is the responsibility of every property owner to be aware of city codes and regulations, it doesnt seem to become reality until they receive their notice and fine. It is also encouraging to see the ongoing improvement and code compliance after property owners who have allowed repetitive violations to occur with complete disregard for city codes receive their notice. Please pass on my thanks to your staff. Regards, Bill Burwinkle, Price Hill Resident, Business/Property Owner
