The SIR (Sampling / lmportance Resampling) algorithm is an ubiquitously applicable noniteralive algorithm for obtaining draws from an awkward dislribution. The method may have broad applicability in applled Bayesian inference, and is illustrated here using two examples. The first example involves the posterior distribution of parameters and missing data in a normal / conditionally normal bivariate model. The second example involves real datu from the u.s.
