Roadkill - an animal or animals that have been struck and killed by motor vehicles.

In 1993, 25 schools throughout New England participated in a roadkill study involving 1,923 animal deaths.
By category, the fatalities were: 81% mammals 15% birds 3% reptiles and amphibians 1% indiscernible

Extrapolating these data nationwide, Merritt Clifton, editor of Animal People Newspaper estimated that the following animals are being killed by motor vehicles in the United States annually: 41 million squirrels 26 million cats 15 million raccoons 22 million rats 6 million dogs 19 million 350,000 deer opossums

Common wombat (Vombatus ursinus)


At least 3,000 common wombats die annually on NSW highways. This represents a shocking 13.6 percent of the total common wombat population.

White-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) White-tailed deer is the most common deer involved in deervehicle collisions.

American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus)


Due to hide hunting, pollution, loss of habitat, removal of adults for commercial farming and roadkills, the American crocodile is endangered in parts of its range.
