SUMMARY

Mrs. Dubose is a cranky old lady that Scout and Jem are forced to walk by as they head towards Maycombs business district. She insults Atticus in front of Jem and Jem, furious, destroys her flowers on his way home. He is forced to read to her for a month and at the end of the chapter, she dies.

EVENTS

Mrs. Dubose insults Atticus calling him no better than the niggers and trash he works for (135). Jem destroys Mrs. Duboses camellia bushes in a fit of anger Atticus discovers this and forces Jem to read to Mrs. Dubose for a month Mrs. Dubose points out to Atticus one evening on how late it was and how she was able to not have a fit during this time Atticus tells Jem that Mrs. Dubose has died and that she was morphine addict Jem receives a white camellia as his last gift from Mrs. Dubose

QUOTES
