Draw the once cycle of AM wave and calculate the modulation index of it in terms of V max and V min voltages. Using the message signal m(t) =1/(1+t2). Obtain the expression for AM wave when percentage modulations are (i) 50% (ii) 100% (iii) 125%. Explain the generation of SSB using balanced modulator. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of SSB technique. Compare the phasor diagram of narrow band FM signal and AM signal and discuss about the similarities and differences of the two signals. Differentiate between phase and frequency modulations. Explain the indirect method of generation of FM wave and any one method of demodulating an FM wave.

Discuss the effect of noise on conventional AM with suitable derivation. Compare noise performance of PM and FM system. Explain the phase discrimination method of detection of Fm signal. Using phasor diagrams obtain the discriminator response. What are its advantages and disadvantages?

Draw the circuit diagram of Foster-Seelay discriminator and explain its working. Explain how varactor diode can be used or frequency modulation. Considering the modulating and carrier waves as sinusoids, explain the single tone modulation and demodulation of DSB-SC wave with necessary expressions, wave-forms and spectrums Explain how only one side band is necessary for transmission of information.
