PUTRAJAYA (Feb 27, 2012): Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has urged the private sector to take part actively in school sports development through the 1Student 1Sport (1M1S) programme as it would help improve human capital for global competition. He said as school sports development is important in producing outstanding human capital, the ministry needed the support of the private sector to make it a success. Corporate sponsorship in national sports events is not only instrumental in raising the standard of national sports but is also an effective investment opportunity in creating brand awareness, he said when addressing CEOs from 27 companies on corporate social responsibility today. Muhyiddin, who is also education minister, said the private sector's involvement in sports events would also help generate revenue for the country.
Companies can get involved by organising and managing school sport activities from the local to the international level, servicing facilities and sports equipment, and sponsoring school athletes, he said, adding this would help take school sports to greater heights. He said this would also enable the private sector to reach out to 5.1 million students from 10,000 schools and their parents as their potential customers. -- Bernama
