April 26th, 2012 11:00 am Delta Police Requested to Conduct Investigation in Prince Rupert BC April 4th, 2012 Prince Rupert, BC
RCMP Ask Delta Police to Investigate Arrest with Injury Delta Police Major Crimes Investigators are responding to Prince Rupert B.C. at the request of the RCMP in relation to an investigation where a 15 year old female sustained injuries during an arrest. The investigative team will arrive in Prince Rupert early this morning, at which time they will take conduct of the overall investigation. Although the investigation is in its early stages for the Delta Police, preliminary indications are that on April 4th, 2012 the Prince Rupert RCMP attended a residence and were advised that the 15 year old youth wanted to harm herself. Police confirmed with the girl that she was upset and wanted to take her own life. The female was apprehended under the Mental Health Act. She was also then arrested for allegedly assaulting a Police Officer. During the arrest the female was injured and required medical attention. She was taken to the local hospital where it was determined that her arm was broken. The RCMP officer did not suffer injuries. The Delta Police were requested to conduct this investigation on April 25th, 2012, and since agreeing to investigate the incident have notified the Office of the Police Complaints Commissioner (OPCC) that we have taken conduct of the investigation. It is not anticipated that additional information will be released until the investigation has concluded.
