Poverty

Poverty is the deprivation of common necessities such as food, clothing, shelter and safe drinking water, all of which determine our quality of life. Generally, the term poverty refers to: 1) The lack of daily necessities water (potable water, of course) food clothing shelter 2) financial incapability for education and other necessary things. This is the Irish Government's definition of poverty in its National Action Plan for Social Inclusion 2007-2016. "People are living in poverty if their income and resources (material, cultural and social) are so inadequate as to preclude them from having a standard of living which is regarded as acceptable by Irish society generally. As a result of inadequate income and other resources people may be excluded and marginalized from participating in activities which are considered the norm for other people in society."

Social Definitions of Poverty

Some people describe poverty as a lack of essential items, such as food, clothing, water, and shelter, needed for proper living. At the UNs World Summit on Social Development, the Copenhagen Declaration described poverty as; A condition characterized by severe deprivation of basic human needs, including food, drinking water , sanitation facilities, health, shelter, education and information.

Quality of life
The term quality of life is used to evaluate the general well-being of individuals and societies. The term is used in a wide range of contexts, including the fields of international development, healthcare, and politics. Quality of life should not be confused with the concept of standard of living which is based primarily on income. Instead, standard indicators of the quality of life include not only wealth and employment, but also the built environment, physical and mental health, education, recreation and leisure time, and social belonging.
