PHILADELPHIA FIREFIGHTERS LOCAL #22 FILL THE BOOT IN SUPPORT OF MDA

PHILADELPHIA, PA, JUNE 1, 2009 The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local # 22 will fan out across the city on Friday, July 17 for the second day of their annual Fill-the-Boot fundraising campaign in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). The first Fill-theBoot of the summer was held May 8 and raised $59,500. Committed to the eradication of neuromuscular diseases, the IAFF has been a friend and supporter of MDA since 1954. Since 2003, Philadelphia Fire Fighters Local #22 have raised over $1 million through Fill-the-Boot drives. Funds raised by Local # 22 support local MDA services by providing clinic services, support groups, research, helping with the purchase of orthopedic equipment and repairs and providing a week-long session of summer camp for children age 6 to 17. Nationally, the IAFF has supported MDA with the Fill-the-Boot campaign since 1954, raising over $300 million to help Jerrys Kids.
MDA is a national voluntary health agency aimed at conquering 43 neuromuscular diseases that affect over a million Americans. MDA combats these diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive local services and far-reaching professional and public health education. MDA seeks no government grants, United Way funds or fees from patients or their families enabling those receiving aid from the organization to do so free of charge. For more information about MDA or its programs visit www.mda.org.

NOTE TO EDITORS: The media is welcome to cover every aspect of the event. Please contact MDA for more information or to arrange interviews with participants.
