Vestibuloplasty Post-Operative Instructions

The area where the gum tissue was repositioned will be sore and may have a raw feeling for several days. This area can be sensitive to salty, sweet or hot foods. Light oozing of blood is not unusual.

3. Often a plastic type material or an acrylic appliance is placed at the surgical site. Please try not to disturb this material or appliance.

If sutures were placed inside the mouth, they will dissolve or fall out in one to two weeks.

5. Avoid sucking through straw or smoking for 24 hours.

GENTLEY rinse mouth with warm salt water (1/4 teaspoon salt dissolved in 8oz. of warm water) three to four times a day. Brush your teeth and gums gently as tolerated. Avoid the areas were the surgical procedure was performed.

8. Take all medications as prescribed.


Sometimes the after effects of surgery are quite minimal, so not all of the instructions may apply. Common sense will often dictate what you should do. However, when in doubt follow these guidelines or call our office for clarification. Our number is 814-235-7700.
