This lesson will include 20-30 minutes of direct teaching and 30-40 minutes of students exploring the websites on their own. The flowchart requires students to document the steps they took, and what they learn about the resource, document, or topic they chose to search. Guided practice: Show the students the pathfinder located on the Glen Grove LRC page. Model a few different searched on Library of Congress: American Memory, National Archives: DocsTeach, and Google books. Point out the tips on the pathfinder that suggest search techniques for each of the websites visited. Check in with individual students as they search some of the websites. Closure With a few minutes left in the lesson, ask some of the students to share what they learned, or if they found sources they found relevant to their studies of the Revolutionary War. Check for understanding: The lesson begins with a discussion of the primary source they brought from home. I will be able to assess their understanding if they are successful at bringing in a primary source. As the students explore websites, walk around the room and provide guidance and clarification when needed. Whats next? Lesson 3: Student will find a primary source that is directly related to the person or event they are writing about.
