Raja Ramesh Pd 6 As You Like It Written Response In As You Like It, Arden represents a transformative, magical place that

makes who ever enters simpler, happier, and more loving. For example, when Duke Frederick enters Arden he meets a monk and decides to become one himself and give away his throne. In Arden, life is a simple, agrarian lifestyle that is a sharp contrast to the murder, politics, and high class of life at Court. This is seen in the passage where Duke Senior is expounding to Amiens how the woods are better than the court and how simple and happy life is in Arden. Then, Duke Senior and entourage proceed to hunt for their own food, a throwback to a simpler, arguably better time. Oliver experiences a total transformation, going from a mean, loveless person, to a kind, loving one. After Orlando saves him from the lioness, Oliver helps his brother and takes a message for him and this man who previously could not love even his own brother, immediately falls in love with Celia. Arden represents a transformative place where life is simple, and this transformative power is especially evident in the case of Oliver who goes through a life-altering transformation in the short time he is in Arden.
