JULIUS CAESAR Objectives: Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze the various methods and techniques of persuasion

used by Marc Antony and Brutus in Act III, Scene 3 Of Julius Caesar . In addition, students will read aloud the characters speeches and interpret the impact, personal effects, and Shakespearian verbiage in their speeches. Anticpatory Set: Handout Methods of Persuasion Checklist and have students reflect back on the different elements in which someone (a politician) would persuade or influence someones opinions or beliefs. Review and discuss 8 characteristics and then handout George Bushes State of the Union address (January, 2006) and compare it to Lincolns Gettysburg Address Lead In: (Day #3) Two students will come up to the front of the class and read Brutus and Antonys speeches. Cooperative Learning Activity: Students will work in groups of three on Handout Methods of Persuasion Each member will be delegated a responsibility: 1) Writer 2) Analyzer and Interpreter 3) Editor and Proofreader Students will have the whole class period to work on the assignment. At the end of the period, Students will hand in the assignment for a classwork grade. Day #4: As a class, we will review and assess all the questions on the worksheet. (Notes and class discussion will be delivered through a Power Point Presentation) Closure: (Day #5 and 6) Student will come up in front of the class room and present a 3 minute speech on anything of their choice as long as its persuasive.
