WES-GAUTENGTAK
It is with our utmost and deepest shock that weve this morning learnt of the death of one of our eldest, most loyal and honoured members, Ruth Margaret JOBSON, who passed away on Thursday, 5 April 2012. Her struggle to overcome cancer is something of the past. She is at peace now. To her children, mentioned above, our deepest and heartfelt sympathy. May God comfort you all and assure you of His love for Ruth and each and everyone of you. Ruth was a formidable person and absolutely respected member of West Gauteng Branch of the Genealogical Society of South Africa. Her husband, Alister, passed away on 31 December 2009. Both of them were members of exceptional quality, loyalty and really dedicated members of the branch. We will miss Ruth, and both of them very much. A church service was held at the Randburg Methodist Church, corner of Bram Fischer and Grove Roads at 12.30 on Wednesday 11 April 2012. John Stephens For West Gauteng Branch of GSSA
+++++++++++++++++ SOCIETY IS CHANGING CONSTANTLY In a Scientific American magazine it was stated succinctly that society is changing constantly. We do not have to contend with complete hostile physical environments. We contend with the changes of society inwardly. In other words, to adapt to survive the future, we have to do it culturally and become technologically adept. ++++++++++++++++++ OUR BRANCH LIBRAY IS ALSO UNDERGOING A COMPLETE OVERHAUL It is reported that our members got stuck into our Branchs library and overhauled it. It is a massive task and so far it necessitated two Saturdays of hard dedicated work. We thank each and every one that participated. They worked and also stopped to have something to eat and the chat [I venture a guess what they were chatting about? Probably what to do next!!!] Our chairman, Bob Saunders writes: A small team of our membership banded together in our library in their own time to begin a great work that will be beneficial to the whole membership of our club. We have a tiny

space which houses our library, computers and catering gear, and this team saw a need. A need to reorganise our tiny space and to reconfigure our cupboards in such a way that we can utilise our library a bit better. Much of our literature was in the cupboards - in a fashion, but some of it was also still in boxes. Making the library more accessible needed thinking out of the box, which is what they did. Our cabinets are now on coasters, so the library is after a fashion - on the move! They will be wheeled out of the tiny room into the much larger lobby for everyone to be able to access. A great innovation. A major clean-up was undertaken by our ladies and I can't wait to see the progress that has been made. Rome was not built in a day, but a start has been made and great strides taken to make our assets more useable. We have some way to go yet, but my thanks are extended on behalf of the entire membership, to our librarians Graham and Louise, ably assisted by John and Iris Stephens, Marie van Aswegen and Penny Evans for starting the process of "Operation Library". This is just the beginning of many little "internal" projects will should flow from it. Lets keep the momentum up folks. We need more ideas and volunteers to execute these projects. The committee can do some of it, but we all need to be involved. I am so proud of you guys! Kind regards, Bob. John Stephens
