So if the home team has something to lose if they play for a draw on the home-match they will surely try to win that game. Same thing (trying to win no matter what) is valid for both teams in case they are defeated. First version ~ Winning team gets 3 points ~ Losing team loses 3 points - Ina draw game none of the teams is getting anything. This version goes better with home-away games i.e. national leagues, UCL, etc. Second version 1g team gets 3 points - Losing team loses 3 points - Ina draw game, the home team is losing 1 point and the visiting team is winning 1 point This version goes better with competitions that don’t have home-away matches Le World Cup, continental cups (national teams) ‘Organizing a national league season or a group of international competitions. In order to allow losing team to lose points they have to have some points before the season/competition start so that their balance points doesn’t go negative which would confuse the fans and everybody else. So, in a league with 18 teams each team should start the season with a certain number of points calculated like this: number of games (34) X 3 (maxim point available for winning on each game) i.e. in our league with 18 team the above principle looks like this: 34x3=102.
