Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin called for Assemblyman William Boyland to resign, stating that an investigation revealed Boyland had collected per diem payments for days when he was not conducting legislative business but was instead soliciting bribes from FBI agents in New York City. McLaughlin asked the Attorney General to review the per diem system and prosecute anyone who improperly collected per diems, regardless of political party. New Yorkers pay the highest taxes and should not have to tolerate their money being stolen through welfare, Medicaid, or per diem fraud.

McLAUGHLIN: BOYLAND CHEATS TAXPAYERS, MUST RESIGN TODAY
Legislative Statement by Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin (R,C-Melrose) Earlier today, I called for Assemblyman William Boyland to resign. It is now abundantly clear that Assemblyman Boyland has been ripping off the taxpayers by getting reimbursed for expenses he never incurred, should never have claimed, and was not entitled to receive. An investigation by Greg Floyd at WRGB in Albany, aired last month, revealed that Boyland had been using his position as an Assemblyman to collect per diem payments for days when he was not conducting legislative business. We then discovered, through a federal indictment, that the reason he was not in Albany doing his job as Assemblyman was that he was in New York City soliciting bribes from undercover FBI agents. Taxpayers should not be expected to pay a salary to someone who has repeatedly stolen money from them. William Boyland needs to resign. There is no reason to believe that William Boyland is the only person whos done this. I have asked the Attorney General to conduct a comprehensive review of the per diem system and to prosecute anyone who has collected improper per diems. I dont care what party theyre in: anyone who has stolen from the taxpayers deserves to have the book thrown at them. New Yorkers are paying the highest taxes in the country. Weve tolerated far too much welfare fraud, Medicaid fraud and now per diem fraud. Its bad enough that Albany is spending so much of our money. We shouldnt have to put up with it being stolen from us too. Assemblyman McLaughlin represents the 108th district, which consists of parts of Rensselaer, Albany, Greene, and Columbia counties.
