ASSEMBLYMAN WRIGHT CALLS ON NYPD TO END RACIALLY BASED STOP AND FRISK TACTICS
"Stop and Frisk is racial discrimination by another name and if we remember, racial discrimination is illegal in New York State. Since my election to the New York State Assembly in 1992, ending the practices of Stop and Frisk and racial profiling has been at the top of my legislative agenda and I am proud to sponsor the bill which holds police accountable for racial profiling. When more African-Americans and Latinos have been subject to this racist police tactic than the number of African-Americans and Latinos living in New York City, it is evident that this has become a crisis in our neighborhoods. Mayor Bloomberg can find cover behind rising crime statistics if he so chooses, but my residents and especially our children, have nowhere to hide. Community policing has been thrown by the wayside since the Giuliani administration and Mayor Bloombergs support of these Giuliani-era policies has done nothing but further alienate Communities of Color throughout New York City. I call on the New York City Police Department to do the right thing and end the discriminatory practice of racial profiling through deleterious Stop and Frisk tactics," said Assemblyman Keith Wright of Harlem. ### Contact: Ben Rosen 518-455-4793- Office 518-635-0794- Cell rosenb@nysa.us rosen.benjamin@gmail.com
