SAFE HOMES is a national program that

empowers parents and guardians to create a
safe environment by setting clear expectations
about drug and alcohol use for their teens—and
their teens’ friends who visit their homes.

SAFE HOMES Families agree to:

✤ actively supervise any parties in their home

✤ not serve or allow minors to consume alcohol or other drugs in their home

✤ communicate with other parents in an effort to create a safer community for

our children.

When you join SAFE HOMES, your teen can no longer say “you’re the only parent with these
rules”—because you are part of a network of parents and guardians with the same rules.

HOW DOES THE SAFE HOMES TIPS FOR FAMILIES
PROGRAM WORK? OF TEENS
If your teen is invited to someone’s

If you or your teen are hosting
a party…
• Set ground rules with your teen, in
advance. Encourage “by invitation
only” gatherings.
• Be a visible host during the gathering.
• Don’t let anyone who appears intoxicated
leave your home. Contact the parent if a
teen appears intoxicated when arriving or
departing, or if the teen brings drugs or
alcohol to your home.

Know the law: Your Liability – Civil & Criminal

Massachusetts Statute C. 138 section 34 - whoever furnishes any such beverage or alcohol for a
person under 21 years of age shall be punished by a fine of not more than $2,000 or by imprisonment for
not more than one year or both.
Serving or providing intoxicating substances to a minor may also be prosecuted under other criminal
statutes, for example, child endangerment (such as cases where the underage drinker harms himself
or another), which can result in a State prison sentence of up to 10 years and a fine up
to $150,000.
Any person who serves alcohol resulting in intoxication is also civilly liable for injuries caused by the
intoxicated person’s negligence.

HOGARES SEGUROS es un programa nacional

adolescentes quienes visitan sus hogares.

Las Familias de HOGARES SEGUROS están de acuerdo en:
