Introduction:

Change: The process of becoming different. Change is the only constant thing in any type of project. Changes in contract: There are occasions where what is agreed in a contract needs to be changed later on.

Types of changes:
1. Constructive changes:

The condition which is unknown, or not discoverable on reasonable inspections, which significantly changes the scope of the work. Here contractor is required to notify the owner immediately, then the owner/designer will decide the significance of the change and the adjustment for time & price or both.

Types of changes:
2. Cardinal change:

A change which, because of its size or nature, is beyond the general scope of the contract. To determine whether a change is cardinal or not depends on the number of changes made, nature of changes very specific to the case in hand. As a general rule, contractor should refuse to perform cardinal changes or he should notify the 5/17/12owner that the cardinal change is
