Problems and Challenges in Adopting Credit based Evaluation: Teacher Context

Credit Based evaluation system enhances the quality of education and brings transparency in the system of evaluation,. In credit based evaluation system curriculum includes such ingredients as may be required to upgrade the standards of teaching such as classroom lectures, laboratory techniques, seminars, field study, assignments, discussion, project and training etc. These ingredients are specified in terms of courses with each course having credit depending on the work load involves. The credit based semester and grading system essentially implies a redefining of curriculum into smaller measurable entitles or modules with the hours required for learning these non teaching being at the primary focus and the development of mechanism whereby these modules can be combined in different ways so as to qualify for certificate diploma or degree. In Grading System learners are placed in ability bands that represents a range of scores. These ability bands may vary according to the number of categories for the classification of performance of the learners. Credit system helps bring much required shift in focus from teacher centric to student centric education. Its distinct feature is continuous and comprehensive evaluation of students credit system is structured education system having enough room for flexibility. As it has been standardized as per National and Global Standards it, permits portability of credits.. The examinations are going to be internal and integral part of teaching process. The outcome of such evaluation is going to be an objective in the sense that performance is to be measured in the form of grades. Marks are to be converted into Grades after Scientific Normalization procedure.
