These cards give facts about just a few of the species of deer that live in different places around the world. This would be a great companion to our new unit titled All Deer! A Fun Study! Visit homeschool bits on Currclick for more information.

White-Tailed Deer Whited-tailed deer are found from southern Canada to South America. We refer these deer as White-tailed because of the white on the under side of its tail.

Pudu Deer The Pudu deer is known as the world's smallest deer. These deer are found in South America, and are only about one foot tall.

Reindeer Reindeer in North America are called caribou. Unlike any other species of deer, the female reindeer has antlers.

Moose The moose is the largest member of the deer family. The name moose was given by a Native American tribe, and means eater of twigs.

Antlers

Some deer have big antlers, or small antlers, and some have no antlers at all. Amazingly, deer are the only animals that have antlers! Antlers are bony, hornlike growths on the head of the deer.

A deer has legs with long muscles that enable it to run very fast. A deer's foot has four toes. Two of the toes make up the hoof. This hoof also helps the deer to run and jump fast!

Buck
