Dr. N.

M Butt
Born in 1936 in Sialkot, Dr. N M Butt attended Punjab University after completing his prior education from Sialkot. He received BSc. degree in Applied Physics from PU in 1955. Two years later, in 1957 he completed his MSc. from PU, Lahore with specialization in Nuclear Physics. On his mentors advice, he attended Birmingham University, from where he received his Ph.D. in 1965 and was awarded a DSc from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 1993. In 1961, Dr. N M Butt joined PAEC as a nuclear scientist. He went on to receive many distinctions in his long and decorated career. He was an integral member of the PAEC team that visited CERN in 1997 and allowed PAEC to conclude a successful agreement with CERN. Dr. Butt has worked as Chief Scientist at the Pakistan Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology (PINSTECH), Vice-President of Crystallography Society of Pakistan, President of the Pakistan Nuclear Society (1995-1997), and Treasurer of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (1994-1998).

He has more than 100 research papers attached to his name with special interest in Neutron Diffraction and Scattering, Research Reactor Utilization and Mossbauer Spectroscopy. He has lectured in more than 25 countries and has been working as an IAEA (UN) expert and consultant in the Nuclear field. He has also worked as visiting scientist at the Atomic Energy Research Establishment (AERE), Harwell (UK), Oxford University (UK), ICTP, Trieste (Italy) and Reactor Institute, Stockholm (Sweden). After such a distinguished service in nuclear physics, Dr. Butt was awarded the Sitarai-Imtiaz in 1992 and the Khwarizmi International Award in 1995
