SUBMARINES

The submarines used during WWI were 53.8 feet long. They had a top speed of 6 knots. They only had torpedoes on the board.

Newer subs are about 337 feet long. They have a speed of around 28 knots. They have torpedoes and missile systems. They are called attack subs.

TORPEDOES
A torpedo is self-propelled underwater missile launched from a tube located on the deck or inside the hull of a warship. A torpedo is essentially a guided missile that happens to "fly" underwater.
