A historical account of community organization is not available in Nepal.

But it was said that Nepal has following community based organizations and programs in Nepal. 1. Dhikur (Thakali) Dhikur originated with the three indigenous nationalities namely thakalis, gurungs and bhotes of western mountain and hills. Dhikur has been a prime example of voluntary credit association that has sustain for centuries and still continuing to expand different communities including professional groups, teachers and other caste group. 2. Trust/ Guthi (Newar) Guthi practice was developed as an earlier concept of the cooperative system as a community organization. This has been at work, which has been going on for centuries in Nepal. The history of Guthi is as old as the history of Newar civilization, however the mentioning of the term dates back to 464 AD, in the inscription found in Changu Narayan temple of Bhaktapur. 3. Rodhi (Gurung) Rodhi is originated from the Gurungs who are recognized for the rich tradition of music and culture. Rodhi is the social organization where boys and girls of same age group meet and share their views in music and dancing. They perform communal task in their society with coordination and cooperation. 4. Bheja (Magar) Bheja is a traditional indigenous organization practiced in Magar community through the medium of which they conduct different rituals, religious ceremonies, agricultural works, economic activities and management of resources. 5. Perma or Bhajaiti (labor exchange in hills ) Perma is a labour organization of both caste and ethnic groups. It is based on reciprocal exchange of labour among the communities members during the pick agricultural season to perform activities like preparing the fields, transplanting paddy and harvesting winter and summer crops. 6. Dharm Bhakari (Tharu) It includes saving and credit associations popularly known as dhikuti, and grain savings and labour saving system.
