BACKUP AND RECOVERY POLICY

1 Purpose

This policy is designed to protect data in the organization so that it can be successfully recovered in the event of unintended loss

Scope

This policy applies to on-premise files and production data stored in SOX-related application databases and to shared file systems used by the finance department.

Out of Scope

This policy does not apply to laptops, desktops or mobile devices.

Policy
Disk-to-disk backups must be taken at least daily Full backups must be taken at least weekly Incremental backups must be maintained for at least 1 month Full backups must be maintained for at least 3 months The disk-to-disk backup must be copied to an off-site location at least daily A restore of the file system or database must be performed and validated at least annually. In the case of an application, the database should be restored and the application started against the database to ensure that the application can be successfully operated from the backup Backup logs should be created detailing the success or failure of the backup activities Backup logs should be maintained for a period of at least 12 months
