As I said to all in the Academic Health Center and University leadership, I think it's important to recognize your continued focus and success during this period of time. Although I've been in my present position a relatively short period of time, I have served as the chair of several medical school departments over my career, and I know what is required for success. Your department has all of the components: top notch patient care, advancing knowledge, training the next generation of physicians and other providers, excellent leadership, and a committed faculty, and I want to commend you all. And in particular, it's remarkably commendable that Steve Olson continues to excel in advancing the treatment of patients with schizophrenia. I understand that he has served as a member of the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) schizophrenia clinical trial network, and was recently voted "teacher of the year" by the University's psychiatry residents. That's a tribute to his discipline, and the support of his department chair and colleagues. Sincerely, Aaron Friedman, M.D. Vice President for Health Sciences and Dean of the Medical School
