Issues of cultural identity in assimilating globalization: A deconstructionist critique of Sidhwas fiction

This study explores the issues faced by a Pakistani girl in sustain her cultural identity. She was sent to America as her mother was fascinated by the western culture. But her daughter and the whole family faced crisis as she was unable to maintain her identity ideals. Out of five novels, American Brat was selected for the study. Being text-based research, the appropriate methodology applied for the Deconstructionist analysis of the text is Content Analysis. Out of three modes of content analysis, latent coding has been applied as it deals with the implied meaning of a text. The study shows that the inhabitants of countries like Pakistan suffer from severe stumbling blocks in maintaining their cultural and nation identity as there are cross-cultural forces which bring about their assimilation in the culture of the dominant.
