HISTORY OF NAARDEN I In the 9th Century Naarden was a small

town of fishermen and traders In 1350 the Spanish troops invading Naarden 50 years after rebuild the city During the 13th and 14th Centuries several storms devastate Holland a giant inland sea was created : the Southern Sea (Zuiderzee).

The fortification was constructed by Vauban. The fortification has not changed since the XVII century

Naarden is the only example of a fortification based on the control of water.

In 1926 the fortification its become in one important monument The fortification is one of the best fortification conservated

It was created in Italy in XVI century. It is a fortification with star form. It was very popular in north of France and in Holland. Two important architects were Vauban and Meno van Coehoorn.

This defense structure was very positive for the defense of the city. The only problem was that it was very expensive. A good example is Siena that it enter in bankruptcy in 1544 for trying to did the structure
