HOLY CROSS FOOTBALL - JV

Here are a few parts of our playbook: the route tree, our defense, and a few of our favorite plays. If you dont understand this, dont worry. Were only giving this to you so you can see an example of what were going to be doing the first few days of camp and practice. Were not asking you to memorize any of this (at least not yet). But please take a look at it before the first day of camp or practice.

Route Tree
The route tree is a simple way of reminding you what route youre going to run. It doesnt matter what receiver position you play, the routes are the same. All odd-numbered routes are run towards the sideline; and all even-numbered routes are run towards the middle of the field.

I-Right 26 Lead
This is one of our running plays. The numbers 1, 2, and 3 in black represent players. 1 is the QB, 2 is the RB, and 3 is the FB. The gray numbers in the spaces represent the holes. It is I-Right, because the backs are lined up in an I and the Y is lined up to the right. In this play, the 2-back runs through the 6 hole. Its called lead because the 3 leads him through the hole.

Base Defense
Here is our base alignment on defense. N is the Nose Guard, T is a Tackle, E is an End, B is a Linebacker, $ is the Money, L is the Lightning, and C is a cornerback. Well go into more detail at practice, but now you can see where youll lineup.

Trips Rollout Flood Right

This is one of our pass plays. Trips is a formation where there are three receivers (Y, H, and Z) on one side. Rollout is when the QB runs to one side before throwing. And it is called Flood because there are three options for the QB to throw to on one side of the field. Look for routes on the route tree in the play.

This is another pass play. This one is shown out of the Zebra formation -- well talk about all of our formations at camp. Again, look at how the routes are taken from the route tree.
