ATMOSPHERE & CLIMATE

Atmosphere
A layer of gas around the earth Made up mostly of 78% nitrogen 21% oxygen

and a lot of other gasses that are less than 1% There are 5 layers of the atmosphere
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

Troposphere Stratosphere Mesosphere Thermosphere Exosphere

Atmosphere Continuded
The closest layer to the surface is the troposphere

it extends 10 km (about 6mi) above the surface. This is were we live and it has the air that we breathe. The next layer is the stratosphere it is from 10km to about 50km (about 30mi) above the Earth. Air Planes fly in the lower part of this layer. There are three more minor parts of the Atmosphere, the Mesosphere, Thermosphere and, the Exosphere

Climate
Climate is the average weather over a period of time
Determined from the local weather but also

latitude, air circulation, ocean geography, and local geography. The latitude of a place determines how close it is from the sun. The closer it is, its hotter but the farther it is the colder. So the latitude can determine a lot.

Green House Effect

Green House Effect is when Earth traps heat close to the planet like a green house.
Green house gasses keep in and are caused

from burning fossil fuels and like products. In Japan 150 different governments all got together, and decided to lower the green house gasses amounts 5% below the 1990 levels.

Ozone
The ozone is a layer the absorbs ultraviolet light (UV)
UV light is radioactive and can hurt smaller

organisms and all humans UV light can cause skin cancer The ozone is made of three oxygen atoms. Many scientists fear that the primary pollutant CFCs is damaging the Ozone
