Godzilla vs the Devil

Story by Reuben Bercovitch Mankind's evil grows and begins to manifest itself in physical form. Monsters begin to appear, ravaging the land. Only Godzilla can stand up to this menace, but even he may be unable to prevail when the Devil himself takes a physical form.

History:
This was to be a joint US/Japanese production between Toho and UPA Productions. The script was to be penned by an American (most likely Reuben Bercovitch) and a budget of $4 million was supposedly set for the film. In the movie, Godzilla would face a host of monsters, first squaring off against a giant spider, a demonic fish, and a huge bird. The climax was to pit Godzilla against the Devil himself. At a time when the occult and the Devil were enjoying a morbid fascination in the public eye and films like The Omen and The Exorcist were selling out theaters across the globe, the decision to pit Godzilla against a supernatural evil was an obvious one. Despite an announced release date for sometime in 1978, however, this unusual blend of supernatural horror and kaiju eiga was never made.
