Course Description:
1050 HONORS ENGLISH III (2 terms) Honors English III is for college bound students who are motivated to work hard, at a higher level in English III. Students must score a 17 or higher on the English section of the PLAN test, and a 19 or higher on the Reading section of the PLAN test. Students should have earned an A or B in honors English II or an A in regular English II. Teacher recommendation from English I and II are also required. This course combines curriculums of English III and Advanced Composition. Therefore, it focuses on American literature, literary analysis, research skills, technology application skills, and higher level critical thinking activities. Dependable computer and internet access are both required for daily work. Class Level: 11 Credit: 1 unit credit (1/2 credit per term)

Upon completion of Honors English III, students will be able to:


1. Determine meanings of figurative language, connotations, and word choice in literature and how they impact meaning and tone of an overall piece of literature or text. (CCS RL 1112:4&6; CCS RI 11-12:4) 2. Demonstrate knowledge of eighteenth-, nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century foundational works of American literature, including how two or more texts from the same period treat similar themes or topics. (CCS RL 11-12:9) 3. Use technology, including online sources, to develop, plan, type, revise, edit, and re-write to address a specific purpose or audience. Also incorporate internet technologies into revision and gaining feedback. (CCS W 11-12:4-6) 4. Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 1112 topics, texts, and issues, building on others ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively. (CCS SL 1112:1)
