VOD
VOD is for the smart user TV-VOD: You pay for individual movies and shows, and watch them on your cable-connected TV
EITHER stream content through a set-top box, a computer or other device, allowing viewing in real time OR download it to a device such as a computer, digital video recorder (also called a personal video recorder) or portable media player for viewing at any time

IVOD: Internet television, using the Internet, is an increasingly popular form of video on demand AVOD: Some airlines offer it as in-flight entertainment

WHY VOD? A BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE


VOD is an extension of a string of discoveries peer-to-peer networking the development of file sharing software Advantages
Cost: Burden of the entire cost not on original provider Reach: Used by multiple consumers at a given time Possibility: It was technically possible to offer the consumer potentially every film ever made

HOW DOES PPV WORK?


Found on the Menu or Program Schedule screen List pops up of the available PPV events/movies Use the remote control to select System warns the customer of the charges before confirming the purchase Option of accpting or canceling the order Charges are added to the monthly cable bill

SPORTS EVENTS (PPV)


The customer must tune into the specific channel at the specific time Customer will still be charged ifthe purchase is made but fails to watch

MOVIES (PPV)
Can be watched any time Make the pay per view purchase when ready to watch Program will begin immediately.

CANCELLATION (PPV)
Sometimes be canceled before the program begins or as it is beginning But after the first few min, purchase is final

Both VOD and PPV allows the customer to choose, pay, and watch.

DIFFERENCES
VoD PPV

1. Movies are not run as schedule broadcasts


2. More control (Similar to DVD,VCR) 3. SVoD (Subscription VoD) allows the access to all the episodes of a particular show. 4. Pay and watch immediately 5. You need a network cable for the video to reach your box (internet) 6. Bandwidth is not used as servers store these videos. When demanded, head end sends signal to the server for that user.
