FEDELI MARKS ITALIAN HERITAGE MONTH

QUEENS PARK -- Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli celebrated Italian Heritage Month in the Ontario Legislature today. Fedeli gave the formal Ontario PC response to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports official statement on the occasion. Heres the text from Fedelis statement:
It is an honour to provide a response on Italian Heritage Month. As Canadians of Italian heritage, we have a tremendous amount of pride and for good reason. Let me tell you a little about my familys story as part of the wonderful Italian-Canadian community we have in North Bay. My grandfather, Antonnio Fava, came over from Santo Stefano in 1924, with $5 in his pocket. He settled in North Bay and spent most of his life with the Department of Highways. My most vivid memories are hunting with him, where hed send me into the field to pick up the partridge. My grandfather, Vittorio Fedeli, came over from Porto San Eipidio when he was 20. He settled in the Sault and spent his working life with Algoma Steel. He was known as a kind and generous man who loved to cook, garden, and be with his family. My dad, Hub Fedeli, has been gone almost 3 years. But everyone in North Bay would be quick to tell you he was the Patriarch of the Italian community. His beloved Davedi Club shines as a beacon of Italian Pride and a symbol of a culture that embraces their heritage. Especially if it involves food! Im proud to be Italian and to have this opportunity to share some stories.
