Tuanku Ja’afar laid to rest KUALA PILAH: The Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri
Sembilan Tuanku Ja’afar ibni Almarhum Tuanku Abdul
Rahman, 86, was laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum in
Seri Menanti, near here, yesterday evening.
His remains were brought to the Royal Mausoleum
from Istana Besar Seri Menanti in a special hearse in full
royal tradition after the asar prayer.
The final journey to the Royal Mausoleum was ac-
companied by an 86-gun salute by the Royal Artillery
Regiment.
Tuanku Ja’afar was laid to rest at 5.30pm. Negri
Sembilan mufti Datuk Mohd Murtadza Ahmad read the
funeral rites.
Present at the funeral was Tuanku Ampuan Negri
Sembilan Tuanku Najihah Tunku Besar Burhanuddin.
The members of royalty and dignitaries who paid their
last respects included the Sultan of Brunei Sultan Has-
sanal Bolkiah, the Sultan of Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim
Mu’adzam Shah, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah
Ahmad Badawi and his wife Datuk Seri Jeanne Abdullah,
and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak
and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Earlier, a steady stream of visitors paid their last re-
spects to the Ruler at the lying-in-state at Balairong Seri
of Istana Besar Seri Menanti.
Tuanku Ja’afar, who died at 11.45am on Saturday at
Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar in Seremban, had earlier com-
plained of headache and discomfort.
He is survived by Tuanku Najihah, three sons and three
daughters, namely Tunku Dara Naquiah, Tunku Laxamana
Tunku Naquiyuddin, Tunku Imran, Tunku Jawahir, Tunku
Irinah and Tunku Putera Nadzaruddin. – Bernama
