John Ortega May 10, 2012 Advisory Project C.A.R.E. 1.

Please provide a detailed summary describing the artifact and its purpose. The purpose of this artifact was to raise awareness for any marginalized group of your choice. For this project we were grouped into networks. I and my network chose to work with autistic children. For this project we had to create an exhibit that was captivating and full of relevant information on autism. In order to make this possible we had to contact organizations in the form of a phone call or email. Some of the organizations had to be local and the others had to be national. We found organizations in Los Angeles, Kansas, China, and the Bahamas. We had to try and get as much information from these organizations to see what their purpose is and how theyre helping the situation. To execute the project we had to design our own exhibit and make as captivating as possible. Our Exhibit was presented at an exhibition held at V.I.S.A.

2. Identify and list the GLPO(s) that were satisfied in completing this artifact. In addition, please explain how these GLPO(s) were met by specifically referring to examples from the artifact. (Please specifically refer to the indicators within each domain, and do not simply state that you Took Action or Communicated Ideas.) There were two GLPOs in this artifact. One of the GLPOs that was completed in this project that Recognizes Perspectives and classifies me under the developing stage is, The student identifies and describes how cultural perspectives affect how people interpret and respond to different situations, events, issues, or phenomena. This GLPO was completed because I saw how marginalized autistic kids are affected. In this case the situation or issue was autism. Another GLPO that was completed in this project that Investigates the World and classifies me in the developing stage is, The student uses multiple international and domestic sources, media, or languages to identify relevant evidence that addresses a globally focused question. This GLPO was completed because I contacted multiple organizations locally and international that both focused on the same topic which was autism.

3. What skills and concepts were learned in completing this artifact and how will they affect your future?

I learned many new skills and concepts through completing this artifact. One of the skills that I learned was how to contact an organization through the form of a phone call using a formally written script. Another skill that I learned through completing this project was how to create and exhibit that is captivating and full of important information. One of the concepts that I learned was how autism affects a family in both a good and bad way. Another concept that I learned through completing this project was learning how and organization helps out a specific group. These new skills and concepts will affect my future because most likely I would have to contact and organization again for a different project. These new skills would also affect my future because maybe I would have to create another exhibit for a different project as well. 4. What might you do differently if you were able to revise the final project? If I were able to recreate the final project I would have at first started the exhibit off better so we wouldnt have to redesign a much more complex exhibit. If I were able to recreate the project I would have chosen a better network because some of the people in my network didnt contribute to the project as much as the rest of us. Also, I would have contacted organizations that respond more quickly.
