Platelet

Red Cell White Cell

Blasts

Normal human blood

Blood with leukemia

Chronic Leukemia
Build up of more mature blood cells Most are asymptomatic at presentation Strikingly elevated WBC

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Chronic Mylogenous Leukemia (CML)

Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia

Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia

Acute Leukemia
Rapid increase of immature blood cells Crowd bone marrow so it is unable to make healthy blood cells Accumulation makes the cells flow out into the blood stream and organs Short course of symptoms Fatigue, fever, easy bruising, bleeding More than 20% blasts in bone marrow Blasts in peripheral blood in 90% cases Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) Acute Mylogenous Leukemia (AML)

Acute Mylogenous Leukemia

Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia

Symptoms
When there are excessive white blood cells --> Infections When there are few red blood cells: Paleness --> Anemia When there are few platelets --> Excessive bleeding Flu like symptoms Bruise easily Headache Nausea

Anorexia
