Aim

By the end of the course, students will be able to

Review the words and sentences pattern shown in Hello Darbie 2


Apply what they learned to write a short story of a friend

Level

Primary level (3rd graders)

Language Focus

Words:

One, two three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten

Ear, hair, mouth, nose, eye

Dance, draw, read, sing, write

Heavy, short, strong, tall, thin


Sentence patterns: The underlying blanks could be replaced by other words.

This is Tina.
She is a nine-year-old student.
She has a big mouth and small eyes.
She is thin.
She can sing.

Grouping: divide the class into five group


Put postures onto the board.

Procedures

Step 1: Warm-up (5mins)


1. Put the word search posture onto the board.
2. Demonstrate how to do the activity. (Ten)
(a) Its a word caterpillar. There are some words inside the caterpillar.
(b) Use the chalk to circle the hidden word.
(c) For example, you can see ten in the middle of the caterpillar.
Then, use chalk to circle the word.
3. Invite students participation.
4. Review the word one by one. (eye, dance, ten)

Step 2: Main presentation (20 mins)


1. Tell a story about Tina.
2. Use the prompt cards to review the words.
(a) Walk around the classroom and ask students to repeat the word.
(b) Ask questions like Can you sing? or Are you tall? to involve
students participation.
(c) Invite students to do the action to connect to the real life.
3. Write a story of your friend.
(a) Tell students they are going to write a story.
(b) Give out paper.
(c) Choose one of their classmates. Draw him/her on the paper.
(d) Write down three sentences based on the above format. (Change the
characteristics when needed.)
4. Share the drawing with classmates.
(a) Pick classmates who have special drawings.
(b) Ask them to come to the front.
(c) Show the drawing to classmates and have them guess who is he/she.
(d) Lead them to read the sentences.

Step 3: Wrap-up (10 mins)


1. Divide the students into groups. Each group stands for one color bear.
2. Explain and demonstrate the game as follows.
(a) Students take turns to rock the paper scissor to decide who goes
first.
(b) Spin the spinner to decide how many squares to move. For example,
if you stop at three. You move forward three squares.
(c) If you can't answer the question, you stay where you are.
3. The child who gets to the end of the board first wins.
