Test:

Add bromine water and it will turn from brown to colourless quickly. Add acidified potassium manganate (VII) (acidified using concentrated sulphuric acid) and the soloution will turn from purple to colourless.

Catalytic Hydrogenation
If an alkene is heated to 200C with a Nickel Catalyst then it will form an Alkane.

If acidified potassium mangante (VII) is added to an Alkene it is oxidised to make a Diol.

Electrophilic addition
If a Halogen or a hydro halogen (HBr) is added to an Alkene the alkene will for a halogenoalkane and the halogen will discolour
