Increase fluid intake up to 2-3 liters perday Drink 2 glasses of water 30 minutes after dinner and 1 glass upon waking up to prevent urine from becoming concentrated Do not hold urine Monitor urine output closely, noting for concentrated orange color or burning sensation during urination Strictly limit the use of table salt and consumption of high sodium foods such as canned goods and junk food. The recommended sodium intake is 3-4g / day. Strictly limit the intake of food high in oxalate such as peanuts, soy products, instant tea and beans. Decrease consumption of food high in calcium & phosphate such as milk products and cheese. Avoid or strictly limit consumption of food products from fast-food chains and Street food.

PREVENTION OF URINARY TRACT INFECTION Hygiene Use shower instead of bathtub to prevent bacteria from entering urethra After each bowel movement or urination, clean perineum and urethral meatus from front to back Wear cotton panties and regularly change underwear if soiled or during menstruation Wash perineal area with mild soap and water before and after sexual intercourse with partner

Fluid Intake Increase fluid intake up to 2-3 liters per day Avoid drinking coffee, tea, soft-drinks and alcoholic beverages

Voiding habit Void every 2-3hours during the day and empty bladder before going to sleep Practice urinating before and after each sexual intercourse

Therapy Take medication religiously and exactly as prescribed For recurrent infection, refer to physician to consider acidification of urine through ascorbic acid supplements daily or drinking of cranberry juice Notify the primary health care provider if fever occurs or if signs and symptoms of infection such as painful urination & bleeding occurs
