1. Objective: Use addition and multiplication properties to solve problem. 2. Equivalent expressions mean they have the same value. 3. Sum answer in addition. 4. Difference answer in subtraction. 5. Product answer in multiplication. 6. Quotient answer in division. 7. Distributive property (single mom and the kids) Combine addition and multiplication

Example: 2 (x + y) = 2x + 2y
8. Commutative Property: The order in which two numbers are added or multiplied does not change the sum or product. (Flip flop property) Examples: 3 +1 = 1+3 3x1=1x3

9. Associative Property: The way in which three numbers are grouped when they are added or multiplied does not change their sum or product. Examples: 1 + (2+3) = (1+2) +3 1 x (2x3) = (1x2) x 3 10. Identity properties: The sum of an addend and 0 is the addend. Example: 5 + 0 = 5 The product of a factor and 1 is the factor. Example: 5 x 1 = 5 11. Zero property of Multiplication (or multiplicative property of zero. ) Any number times zero is zero. Example: 7x 0 = 0 12. Multiplicative Inverse (inverse of multiplication) Any number times its reciprocal is one. Example: 2 x 13. Additive inverse: Any number plus its opposite is zero. Example: -4 + 4 = 0
