Writing Process Stages

1. Prewriting Getting Started . Provide time to think and talk about ideas. . Brainstorm as a class or with buddies. 2. First Draft Getting it Down . Select a purpose for writing: to inform persuade, entertain, explain. . Know your audience. 3. Revising Getting it Right . Have a peer read your story. . Make additions, deletions, and change. 4. Editing Checking it Out . Review punctuation and capitalization. . Check grammar carefully. 5. Publishing Celebrate . Share stories orally from the authors chair. . Make a book and design a cover. . Display a story in the school or classroom library.
