AIR POLLUTION
Ill go out for a breath of fresh air is an often-heard phrase. But how many of us realize that this has become irrelevant in todays world, because the quality of air in our cities isnt completely fresh. Air pollution is a serious problem in our society, especially in big cities. it is very difficult to get fresh air in big cities, estimated 60 percent of air pollution caused by moving objects or motor vehicle, mainly because they use diesel fuel. For example, in Jakarta, between the years of 1993-1997, the number of vehicles was increasing which are: Motorcycle 207%, Private Car 177%, Public Car 176%, and Bus 138%. If that continues to happen, it will harm our health. A lot of respiratory diseases such as asthma, bronchitis, sore throat and other respiratory diseases can threaten our health. Besides harm the respiratory tract, smoke of motor vehicles and factories can also negatively impact intelligence. A recent study showed that children exposed to air pollution in cities will have a lower IQ than children who are less exposed from air pollution. The research was done by Dr. Frederica P. Perera, director of Columbia's Center for Children's Environmental Health and has been published by the Journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics in July of 2009. There are things we should do to reduce air polution. First, decorate the yard around our house with lots of plants to help the production of oxygen. Second, develop green technology and renewable such as Fuel Cell and Solar Cell. Third, save energy. Together we can make things happen!
