NDCS is a national charity dedicated to creating a world without barriers for deaf children and young people. We have recently embarked on an innovative 3-year project with funding from the DCSF (Department for Children, Schools and Families), with the aim to improve achievement and outcomes for black and minority ethnic (BME) deaf children in England. The project is operating in London, the West Midlands and Yorkshire and Humberside. As part of this project, we are looking to recruit qualified DPSI interpreters (health component) in these three areas, with either full or interim status, in the following community languages: Urdu, Bengali/Sylhetti, Punjabi, Mirpuri Punjabi, Arabic, Turkish, Somali and Polish. Registration with NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters) and some experience of working with families is desirable. We will provide free training in deaf awareness and working with families of deaf children. You will then join our list of recommended interpreters to provide communication support to BME families of deaf children at NDCS assignments. You will also be recommended to external services and organisations working with deaf children.
