POWER PLANT OPERATION

WATER CYCLE

The water from the De-mineralization plant enters the boiler drum(for initial light up) and the storage tank. After many chemical processes this D.M. water enters into the plant. From the storage tank the water is forced into the hot well, then from the hot well the water is sent to L.P. Heater through Condensate extract pump(C.E.P). The water from L.P. Heater attains some sensible heat and is then sent to de-aerator. This helps in removing the waste gases like CO2 etc are removed off and the de-aerator is placed at suitable height as it provides proper suction fro the BFP(Boiler Feed Pump). As the gases are removed off the water is sucked in by Boiler Feed Pump and a high pressure water is given out from BFP to the H.P. Heater where again the sensible heat is added in the water. After the H.P. Heater the water is then fed to the economiser where the heat from the flue gases is utilized and thus the water is heated. This water is then fed to the boiler drum and then to the water wall tubes for its conversion into steam. Cooling water from the CW bay flows through the condenser and carries away the heat of the steam and cools it down, can be seen near the Cooling Tower.

STEAM CYCLE

The saturated steam from the boiler drum flows to the superheater for attaining the required temperature and pressure. The steam the flows through the De-superheater, here the water is sprayed onto the steam to bring down its temperature and pressure. After this step the steam is sent to platen superheater where the saturated steam is converted into dry superheated steam. Steam is the fed to final superheater and then to H.P. Turbine where the steam does work on the turbine. The steam from the outlet of the H.P turbine is then sent to the reheater where the temperature and pressure is raised again and the sent to the I.P. Turbine. Steam after expanding in I.P. Turbine is directly fed into the L.P. Turbine where the steam loses its energy and converts into the useful work. Steam after expanding in L.P. Turbine is sent to Condenser(located just below the L.P. Turbine). The steam is then condensed into water and due to evaporation some amount of water is lost, in order to maintain the perfect values some water is added known as Make Up Water.
