Executive Summary

Tablet PC, or Tablet, is a mobile computing device, larger than a standard mobile phone or a personal digital assistant (PDA) or a Smartphone, using an onscreen virtual keyboard operative at the touch gesture, or a passive stylus pen, or a digital pen. Tablet PC is available indifferent forms that vary in screen position with respect to the keyboard. The standard form was called slate which didnt have an integrated keyboard but could be connected to a wireless link or a USB port. Hybrids Tablet PCs on the other hand had a detachable keyboard so that the touch screen can be used as a stand-alone tablet. Whereas, Booklets included two touch screens, and could be used as a notebook by displaying a virtual keyboard in one of them. Typically, Tablet PCs come in the size range of 7-10 inches screen with varied storage capacity ranging from 8-64 GB. Microsoft took the initiative and was the first one to manufacture and release Tablet PC in 2002, attempting to define Tablet personal computer (PC) concept catering to field work in business only and had limited functionality. Though, Microsofts effort was a failure, yet it redefined the definition of Tablet PCs, followed by the launch of revolutionary Apple iPad in 2010 which created a wave in the Tablet PC segment. Since then, it has been maintaining its leadership score with iPad (first generation), iPad 2 (recent launch) in 2011 supported by a large number of Applications base.
