Geofman Sahar Int'l Ceftriaxone Na Treatment of infections caused by susceptible strains of gram-ve & gram+ve microorganisms including septicemia,pneumonia & meningitis. IV/IM Adult 1-2 g once daily or in divided doses bid. Max: 4 g daily. Uncomplicated gonococcal infection 250 mg as a single IM dose. Surgical prophylaxis 1 g as a single dose IV -2 hr pre-op. Childn Skin & skin structures infection 50-75 mg/kg once or in divided doses bid. Max: 2 g daily. Acute bacterial otitis media 50 mg/kg as a single IM dose. Max: 1 g. Serious miscellaneous infection other than meningitis 50-75 mg/kg given in divided doses 12 hrly. Max: 2 g daily. Meningitis Initially 100 mg/kg. Max: 4 g. Total daily dose: 100 mg/kg once daily or in divided doses 12 hrly for 7-14 days. Max: 4 g daily. Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Hepatic & significant renal impairment. Monitoring of prothrombin time in patients w/ impaired vit K synthesis or low vit K stores. Prolonged use. History of GI disease especially colitis. Discontinue use if signs & symptoms suggestive of gall bladder disease develops. Inj site pain, induration & tenderness. Phlebitis, rash. Eosinophilia, thrombocytosis, leukopenia. Diarrhea. Category B: Either animal-reproduction studies have not demonstrated a foetal risk but there are no controlled studies in pregnant women or animal-reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect (other than a decrease in fertility) that was not confirmed in controlled studies st in women in the 1 trimester (and there is no evidence of a risk in later trimesters).
